Your privacy is essential to us. At Soma Wisdom, I have a few fundamental principles that I follow:

We don’t ask you for personal information unless I truly need it.

We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our products, or protect our rights.

We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the ongoing operation of our site.

Soma Wisdom operates the website somawisdom.com. It is Soma Wisdom’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information I may collect while using our websites.

 Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Soma Wisdom collects non-personally-identifying information that the browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Soma Wisdom collects non-personally-identifying information to better understand how Soma Wisdom visitors use its website. From time to time, Soma Wisdom may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

Soma Wisdom also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and users leaving comments on our blogs. Soma Wisdom only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally identifying information as described below, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the blog administrators where the comment was left.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to the Soma Wisdom website interact with Soma Wisdom in ways that require Soma Wisdom to gather personally identifying information. The amount and type of information that Soma Wisdom gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, I ask visitors who comment on our blog to provide a username and email address. For those who wish to receive Soma Wisdom updates via email, I collect their emails. In each case, Soma Wisdom collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Soma Wisdom. Soma Wisdom does not disclose personally identifying information other than as described below. Visitors can always refuse to supply personally identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Soma Wisdom discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information to process it on Soma Wisdom behalf or to provide services available at Soma Wisdom’s website, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations may be located outside your home country; by using the Soma Wisdom website, you consent to transfer such information to them. Soma Wisdom will not rent or sell potentially identifying and personally identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, Soma Wisdom discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request or when Soma Wisdom believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Soma Wisdom, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of the Soma Wisdom website and have supplied your email address, Soma Wisdom may occasionally email you to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or keep you up to date with what’s going on with Soma Wisdom. I primarily use our various product blogs to communicate this type of information, so I expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example, via a support email or one of our feedback mechanisms), I reserve the right to publish it to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. Soma Wisdom takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally identifying information.

Like millions of other website owners, I use Google Analytics on somawisdom.com.

Google Analytics is software that grabs data about my visitors (you). It’s something like an advanced server log.

What do I do with your data?

The tracking information allows me to better understand the kind of people who come to my site and what content they’re reading. This will enable me to make better decisions about design, content, writing topics, etc. It allows us to understand better what quality content is for the users (you).

Occasionally, I will compile aggregate statistics about the visitors this site receives and browsers being used. No personally identifying data is included in this type of reporting.

All of my activity falls within the bounds of the Google Analytics Terms of Service

 Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer and the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Soma Wisdom uses cookies to help Soma Wisdom identify and track visitors, their usage of the Soma Wisdom website, and their website access preferences. Soma Wisdom visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the Soma Wisdom website, with the drawback that certain features of the Soma Wisdom website may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

 Pixels

“Pixels” are tiny graphics with unique identifiers used to track web users’ online movements. Unlike cookies, which are stored on a computer’s hard drive, pixels are small graphics about the size of the period at the end of the sentence and are embedded invisibly on web pages or in HTML-based emails. Our third-party analytics providers may place pixels on the site that track what other websites you visit (both before and after). Our third-party analytics providers use information obtained from pixels to help us improve our business and the Service. I do not control the use of pixels by third parties.

 Business Transfers

If Soma Wisdom, or substantially all of its assets, are acquired, or in the unlikely event that Soma Wisdom goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur and that any acquirer of Soma Wisdom may continue to use your personal information as outlined in this policy.

Ads

If ads appearing on our website may be delivered to users by advertising partners, who may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement to compile information about you or others who use it. This information allows ad networks to, among other things, deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be most interesting to you. This Privacy Policy covers the use of cookies by Soma Wisdom and does not cover the use of cookies by advertisers.

Breathing God

From Breathing as Spiritual Practice

By: Will Johnson

to merge with god
is to merge with everything
but instead, we feel isolated
alone in the world
separated
even from our own body
whose sensations
we forget to feel

for most of us
most of the time
so tied up in thought as we are
the totality of our world
consists of the few cubic inches inside
our cranium

but god includes everything

to become one with god
is to expand into the felt wholeness
the holiness

to feel whole in yourself
is to feel the whole of your body
as a unified field
of tactile presence

to stay estranged from
god is to stay trapped inside
the claustrophobic confines of your head

if the felt body is the doorway
to the vastness of god
the discrepancy of scale
between living in your head or in your
body
is immense

i stay lost in thought
and I stay isolated
separate from everything

i bring the feeling presence of my body
alive
and god enters me

Our Patterns are Intelligent Adaptations

What the conventional mental health paradigm calls “disorders” or what people label as “dysfunction” are in fact expressions of intelligent adaptations that often develop when we are young, vulnerable and dependent in an attempt to keep us safe and ultimately to keep us alive. Our patterns are always rooted in the biological impulse to survive. There is a profound shift that occurs when we move from relating to our ways of being – thoughts, feelings, behaviors – as a “problem” or “dysfunctional” to wise, protective responses. When we move from shaming to acceptance and ultimately gratitude and love, we allow these protective responses or protector parts to be integrated. Though our culture tells us that healing comes through suppression or annihilation, true healing happens through integration.

The Body is a Portal for Healing, Transformation, and Awakening

As a collective we have lost connection with the body, thus the modern human is disconnected from our deepest source of Truth. We have forgotten that there is an alchemical process that transpires when we turn toward our internal landscape and bring conscious awareness to our somatic experience in the present moment. When we attend to that which has been unattended to, the energy that was previously stored in our tissue, muscles, and organs gets to move through and discharge. When we return to our natural rhythm of fluidity and coherence, we find a deep well of aliveness and vitality, our inner source of guidance and wisdom. In reclaiming the connection with our body, we rediscover the inner Knowing that cultural conditioning has taught us to source outside of ourselves.

We are Wired for Connection

When we are born, we do not come in with a fully developed nervous system. We are entirely dependent on our attachment figures to soothe us in times of distress, as we do not yet have the biological capacity to move through a stress response alone. Through co-regulation, our parents lend us their nervous system so that we can move through distressing emotions and sensations and return to a settled, regulated state. When coregulation is not available to a child, a child’s system will remain “stuck on” in a sympathetic response or will collapse and remain “stuck off.” When our attachment figures are unable to meet our needs, a secure attachment is not developed. Our earliest experiences with our attachment figures lays the blueprint for our attachment patterns, thus affecting the way we respond in later relationships, particularly romantic partnerships.

We Are Nature

As cyclical beings, we are meant to traverse the full range of our natural rhythms: death and decay, regression, stillness, rebirth, renewal and growth. In a culture that valorizes the ascent and almost exclusively reveres progress and growth in a linear trajectory, we have understandably lost connection to the descent and the medicine and gifts within it. Nature knows that we cannot have Summer without Winter, we cannot have growth without rest, we cannot have renewal without disintegration. In reclaiming our place among the grass and the wildflowers, the moss and the reeds, the bears and the butterflies, the mountains and the seas, we find a deep reverence for ourselves and reclaim our vital life force. In remembering that we are not separate from Nature and in choosing to align ourselves with our inherent cycles, we become connected and see ourselves as part of the greater whole.
